In recent weeks, rumors circulated in social media that Target would be opening its first stores in the country. Supposedly, Mexico City and Monterrey would be the first cities to host these new stores.
This happened because on September 12th, photos of the grand opening of the corporation’s offices spread on social media. Some media outlets, like Merca2.0, highlighted the arrival of Target stores in Mexico.
However, the American retail chain denied these claims on both traditional and social media. Through X (formerly Twitter), Target’s official account responded to a post by Nelson Valdez, who said that the first stores would be opening. “Target has a small team of sourcing experts in Mexico City working on this important business, and this photo was taken at their offices. Target has no plans to open stores in Mexico”.
In this way, the company denied the statements and explained the office’s functions. In reality, Target has indeed arrived in Mexico, but it will not be opening its supermarkets in the country.
Target has approximately 1,963 stores and 62 supply chains in the United States. Globally, the American retail company has 20 sourcing offices. The company was founded in 1962, and its first stores opened in Minnesota.
