Apple announced that starting in October 2024, Apple Intelligence will be included in some of its devices. But what is it and which smartphones will have it?
Apple Intelligence is the new artificial intelligence from the company founded by Steve Jobs. According to the official website, it is “the personal intelligence system that combines the power of generative models with personal context to deliver amazingly useful and relevant intelligence”.
Apple Intelligence tools
Apple’s AI has several functionalities. Among them, Apple Intelligence has the ability to “power writing tools”. In seconds, the artificial intelligence can analyze a text and indicate which words are correct according to the context. It can also create summaries of a complete conference or a group conversation. The “Intelligent Writing Tools” integrated into the AI will be “available virtually everywhere you write, even in third-party apps,” the company detailed.
Among its functions is the ability to limit notifications. This artificial intelligence can create priority messages and notifications. Another of its capabilities is the generation of images, videos, and emojis. Through Image Playground, the user can create an image with a description, suggested concepts, drawings, or even a person in the iPhone’s photo library. Here is the first image created by the AI.
Additionally, thanks to Apple Intelligence, Siri will have “a completely new design,” according to the technology company. Now Siri will be able to recognize what is on the device’s screen, so it will understand “the content you are interacting with and perform certain actions.” If a friend sends you a message with their new address, it can add it to your contact card if you ask. It will also be able to collect information within the device in a personalized way, so if you’ve forgotten where you left a password, Siri will find it if it’s in notes, a message, or in the mail.
ChatGPT will also be integrated into the new version of Siri. In the official statement, they declared that “Siri can resort to ChatGPT for certain requests, such as questions about photos and documents.” People who already have an OpenAI account will be able to link it to their devices.
Which devices will have it?
Apple Intelligence will be compatible with only some devices. In the announcement of the iPhone 16, the American company indicated that this new series of smartphones would integrate this AI. However, Apple computers and tablets will also have access to these functions.
The other iPhones that will have the AI available will be the iPhone 15 Pro and the 15 Pro Max. As for tablets, the iPad Air and iPad Pro models that have an M1 chip or higher will have the functions of Apple Intelligence. Likewise, the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro will have access with those chips.
It is worth mentioning that Apple Intelligence will only be available with the updates of the operating systems iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. Additionally, it will only have a beta version in English from October 2024. We will have to wait until 2025 for the AI to have its Spanish version.
