New AI Model Series by OpenAI

On September 12th, OpenAI announced its new series of AI models. ChatGPT will be getting new features and integrating this technology.

The AI research and development company has trained a new AI model called “OpenAI o1-preview.” According to the company, this “model update performs similarly to Ph.D. students on challenging benchmark tasks in physics, chemistry, and biology.”

ChatGPT stayed behind

OpenAI o1 can solve complex math or programming problems. In fact, in a classification test for the International Mathematics Olympiad, ChatGPT – 4o only got 13% of the answers correct, while the new model got 83%.

With respect to programming, the new AI ranked in the 89th percentile on competitive programming questions. In comparison, the current AI, ChatGPT – 4, lagged behind in the 11th percentile. According to the official statement, this new intelligence surpassed its predecessor in all tests and exams.

The company itself highlighted that “it still lacks many of the features that make ChatGPT useful, such as browsing the web for information and uploading files and images.” For most cases with common queries, GPT-4 “will be more capable in the near future.”

OpenAI clarified that the purpose of this new model is to solve “complex reasoning tasks.” It added that “o1 can be used by healthcare researchers to annotate cell sequencing data, by physicists to generate complex mathematical formulas needed for quantum optics, and by developers in all fields to create and execute multi-step workflows.”

This update will not be available to all OpenAI users. People who have ChatGPT Plus and Team can access the o1 models from September 12th. However, OpenAI o1 will have a limit of 30 messages per week. ChatGPT Enterprise and Edu users will also have access starting the last week of september.

OpenAI o1 is still a preliminary version of the new AI model, so there will be more advancements. “We also plan to continue developing and releasing models in our GPT series, in addition to the new OpenAI o1 series,” the company announced.
