Daytona Park, one of Japan’s most popular online clothing retailers, has unveiled a new collection featuring designs inspired by Metepec, a beloved neighborhood in Mexico’s State. The Mexico-inspired pieces are part of the autumn collection of their in-house brand, “Freada”.
The items include hockey-style jerseys with the words “Metepec San Mateo” on the front and the number 92 on the back, similar to those worn by sports teams. According to Daytona Park‘s website, the design was conceived as the uniform of a fictional ice hockey team from the municipality in the State of Mexico.
The jerseys are available in two colors on the brand’s online store: an off-white version with green accents and a black one with white details. Freada also highlights the quality of the garments, stating that “the soft material of this jersey gives it a retro look.”
This isn’t the first time the Japanese brand “Freada” has referenced Mexico. In previous collections, they released t-shirts featuring a fictional American football team in Monterrey, Nuevo León. This trend is no coincidence; Daytona Park‘s original brand chose Mexican artist Frida Kahlo as its icon and influence. The website describes it as “a brand that mixes vibrant colors and typical Mexican prints with military elements based on old clothes.”
Daytona Park is a highly popular Japanese online clothing store. In addition to its own brands like Freak Store and the recently launched Freada, it also sells clothing from brands such as Adidas, Columbia, and Umbrio. Its online store offers shipping to over 220 countries.
