At Meta Connect 2024, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, announced that his company’s AI would now have a voice. On Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Facebook, Meta’s AI will not only have one voice but several, replicating famous people.
Users can choose from John Cena, Judi Dench, Awkwafina, Kristen Bell, and Keegan-Michael Key. The AI will have all these modalities in English. In this way, Meta will debut its AI as a “conversational companion.”
Another update to Meta’s AI will allow users to interact with it through photographs. This technology can now identify details in images and receive instructions. The AI can also edit photos and generate accompanying text for social media.
What was announced at Meta Connect 2024?
In addition to the voices of Meta’s AI, Mark Zuckerberg announced the new Meta Quest 3S mixed-reality headsets. This new series of headsets offers the same experience as the previous ones but with some modifications. Meta Quest 3S has 4.5 times the resolution of Quest 3. Additionally, it doubles the color quality compared to the Quest 2. Another modification to the headsets is the inclusion of a spacer for glasses. If you want to use the headsets with prescription glasses, you can now do so without any problem.
Zuckerberg also showed the first functional prototype of the Orion glasses, an augmented reality technology. “And if I may say so, these are the most advanced glasses ever seen,” said the American entrepreneur. He highlighted that the device does not require cables, large headsets, and weighs less than 100 grams. Mark Zuckerberg explained that the cost of the glasses is still not accessible, so they will continue working to launch it on the market.
At Meta Connect, a live translation demo was presented using a pair of Ray-Ban smart glasses. Brandon Moreno, a two-time UFC champion, conversed in Spanish with the CEO of Meta, who spoke in English. However, the translation by the AI is not yet ready to be launched on all devices.
After demonstrating the demo, Mark Zuckerberg announced a limited edition of Ray-Ban smart glasses. The model is transparent, revealing the technology hidden in previous designs. “For the first versions, we spent a lot of energy designing the glasses to hide the technology. But now I think people appreciate what makes these glasses special and I think having a design that celebrates that is pretty cool,” said the CEO of Meta.
