Mexico’s most beloved mascot has finally made its way to Colombia. Farmacias Similares has arrived in Bogotá under the new name Droguerías del Dr. Simi. As company president Víctor González announced in March 2024, the Latin American expansion continues after successfully establishing over 500 branches in Chile since 2005.
In Colombia, Farmacias Similares has opened four new branches in the capital, bringing the Mexican company’s total store count in Latin America to over 9,800.
According to ProColombia, the country’s investment and tourism promotion agency, the arrival of this Mexican brand marks a “significant milestone, not only due to its successful business model of offering high-quality products at affordable prices, but also for its positive social impact.” The executive director of Invest in Bogota affirmed that Dr. Simi’s presence will “contribute significantly to the well-being and efficiency of the health system, fostering a healthier and more equitable society.”
To celebrate the launch, the Dr. Simi mascots have been seen parading through the streets of Bogotá, even dancing in the Colombian national soccer team’s jersey. They’ve also released a fun video featuring the Dr. Simi mascot dressed as the iconic Colombian TV character, Betty la Fea.
Beyond the opening of the four pharmacies, the Dr. Simi Foundation is committed to developing social projects in Colombia, such as the Simi Colony and reforestation initiatives.
